MENSWEAR JUNE 2012 – THE FACTS & FIGURES

The inaugural London Collections: Men will run from 15th – 17th June 2012

  • 48 catwalk shows and presentations will take place over three days - an increase from 13 shows on Menswear Day February 2012
  • Over 30 ready-to-wear and accessories designers will be exhibiting over three floors at the central hub for London Collections: Men, the Hospital Club, WC2
  • International Press from 21 countries and International Buyers from 20 countries will be coming to London for the menswear showcase
  • London Collections: Men launched with a reception at St James’s Palace hosted by HRH The Prince of Wales, 14th June 2012
  • Alfred Duhill, Mr Porter, Esquire and Jimmy Choo, Tinie Tempah, Tom Ford and Tommy Hilfiger will host events. A GQ London Collections: Men Dinner co-hosted by Dylan Jones, Harold Tillman CBE and Italo Zucchelli will close the event
  • 15 tailoring houses will participate in an open house event on Savile Row, Friday 15th June 2012
  • NEWGEN MEN began in September 2009, building on TOPMAN and Fashion East Menswear’s successful MAN initiative and continues to promote the best of British menswear talent for the sixth consecutive season
  • 6 NEWGEN MEN winners received sponsorship to show at London Collections: Men, June 2012
  • 4 Menswear designers received Fashion Forward sponsorship to access to business support provided by the BFC as well as a cash prize to assist in showing their spring/summer 2013 collections
  • In 2011, global menswear sales increased an estimated 9 percent to 24 billion euros, or $33.42 billion at average exchange rates, versus 22 billion euros, or $29.20 billion, in 2010. (Source www.wwd.com)
  • Men’s items now represent 50 per cent of the luxury apparel market, helped in part by male consumers in emerging markets, especially Asia, with China a major source of growth. (Source: BFC Future of Fashion Report 2012 (Bain & Company’s luxury goods worldwide market study, 10th Edition)
  • The direct value of the UK fashion industry to the UK economy is £21 billion (source: BFC Value of Fashion Report 2010)
  • Fashion’s wider contribution to the economy in influencing spending in other industries is estimated to stand at over £37 billion (source: BFC Value of Fashion Report 2010)
  • The UK fashion industry is estimated to support 816,000 jobs and is the largest employer of all the creative industries.
  • The sector also provides opportunities to minority groups to a greater extent than most other creative industries (source: BFC Value of Fashion Report 2010)
  • The UK Fashion industry is similar in size to the food/beverages services and telecommunications industries and bigger than the wholesale and retail of automotives, sports activities, chemical manufacture and advertising/video sectors (source: BFC Value of Fashion Report 2010)
  • Major export markets are USA, Japan, Russia, France, Italy, Middle East, Hong Kong and China
  • The UK is renowned for having the best fashion colleges in the world
